Quests: Must have started Back to my Roots.
What you need: Machete.
Recommended Items: Severed Hand from Back to my Roots, Weapons, Armour, Food, the ability to defeat strong level-40/50 Ants that can hit in up to 15, Watchtower (Yanille) Teleports or House Teleports if your house is in Yanille, a way to travel to Karamja (money, Ring of Charos (a), Karamja Gloves, etc.), and one or two Antipoison Potions.

Getting Started

If you remember from the quest, Hand in the Sand, a wizard named Clarence was murdered and you found his hand in a pile of sand. At the end of the quest, you collect his head and return it to Zavistic Rarve, a member of the Wizards' Guild. During the quest, Back to my Roots, you find the other severed hand, which also belongs to Clarence. Once you find the hand, you can continue to complete Back to my Roots, or you can start this mini-quest. When you're ready, speak with Zavistic Rarve with the severed hand in your inventory and select the option, "I have a rather sandy problem that I'd like to palm off on you." You can enter the Wizards' Guild and talk to Zavistic (Level-66 Magic required), or you can ring the bell outside for his service.

Note: If you haven't started the quest, Zogre Flesh Eaters, then you will start the mini-quest as soon as you start speaking with Zavistic. If you have completed the quest, or just started it, then you'll need to select the option method above. If you do not have the severed hand, click the same option and continue through the conversation. Once you've finished talking, scroll down to the "Finding the Body Parts" section of this guide, read the information, and begin hunting for the parts.

You will exclaim that you have found something, and that "something" is a hand that belongs to Clarence. You will show the hand to Zavistic and he will take it off your hands. Next, both of you will discuss Clarence's body. Apparently, the Wizards' Guild has not buried the remains of Clarence because they want to find him as a whole for the Wizards' Great Hall. You will then be given the task of finding the other body parts.

Finding the Body Parts

Clarence's body parts are in the Karamja Jade Vine Maze. This is the same maze from the quest, Back to my Roots. The monsters within the maze drop the body parts, but there is one creature that has the highest drop rate for the parts: the giant ants. Giant ants are quite strong. The workers are level-40 with 30 Hitpoints and are not a lot of trouble, but the level-50 soldier ants are quite strong with 40 Hitpoints. They have the ability to hit 15 quite often. You should wear some strong armor, use a strong weapon, and have some food in your inventory. Also, you'll need a machete to get around the maze. Below are some recommendations for what to wear and what to carry.

  • Helmet: Runite Full Helmet, Berserker Helmet, Warrior Helmet, or a Helm of Neitiznot.
  • Necklace: A simple Amulet of Glory would work, but you can use other items, such as onyx jewelry.
  • Chest: Any type of chest ware would work as long as it is Runite or higher.
  • Legs: Any type of leg or skirt ware would work as long as it is Runite or higher.
  • Weapon: An Abyssal Whip is recommended, but anything that is considered Dragon weaponry would work.
  • Shield: Any type of shield ware would work as long as it is Runite or higher. Defenders can also be used, but it is preferable that it is a Runite Defender.
  • Boots: Use something simple like Climbing Boots, or use some stronger boots such as Runite or Dragon.
  • Gloves: Recipe for Disaster Gloves, either Dragon or Barrows.
  • Ring: Nothing special is needed for a ring. You can use a Fremennik Ring, or something simple, like a Ring of Duelling, for teleportation purposes.
  • Cape: A Cape of Achievement is highly recommended, if you have one. If not, a Cape of Legends or Obsidian Cape is adequate.
